In 2002, John's dream came to fruition by becoming a member of the Kansas City, MO Fire Department when he was hired and served as a Firefighter/EMT for the next 13 years. John was dedicated and passionate about his career, and loved serving the community where he was assigned as a member of Pumper 10 (Station 10) located at 1505 E. 9th Street in the Old Northeast part of town.
On the evening of October 12, 2015, John and his fellow crew members were battling a 2 Alarm Blaze at an apartment building over commercial shops located at 2608 Independence Ave in Old Northeast.
